Star Bombshell:
-
Prep your station
Line a tray with parchment. Keep humidity under ~50% if you can. -
Make your base
Use your usual bath bomb mix and bind to a “wet sand” texture (squeeze and it holds, crumbles with a poke). -
Pack a thin shell (Half 1)
Lightly fill the star mold half. Press the mix firmly up the walls to create a 5–8 mm shell with a hollow center. Scrape the rim flush. -
Unmold Half 1
Tap the mold, lift off carefully, and set the shell on the tray. -
Repeat for Half 2
Make a matching shell and unmold. -
Let the shells firm up
Air-dry 20–60 minutes (or until they’re handleable without deforming). -
Add the surprise core
Place glitter, shimmer, embeds, and/or bath dust into one shell’s cavity. Keep contents below the rim so the halves can meet cleanly. -
Create a clean rim
Brush crumbs off both rims. Add a super-thin ring of fresh mix around the rim or lightly mist the rims with 91–99% isopropyl alcohol or witch hazel as “glue.” (Some makers use a tiny bead of bath melt or MP soap instead.) -
Join the halves
Align, press together firmly, and give a small twist to lock. Wipe the seam if needed. -
Cure
Leave on the tray to harden 24–48 hours (longer in humid rooms). -
Finish (optional)
Dust the exterior with mica or shimmer. If you use glitter/mica, include Polysorbate 80 in your formula to help disperse color and reduce tub ring. -
Package & label
Protect from moisture; note any small parts inside if you sell to families with young kids.
Troubleshooting quickies
-
Seam cracks: rims too dry or uneven—re-mist and press again.
-
Shells collapse: mix too wet or walls too thin—repack to 5–8 mm and let firm longer.
-
Halves won’t stick: add a fresher, slightly wetter ring of mix or switch to bath-melt “glue.”
